As a jeweller and a lifelong fantasy fan, I can’t help but geek out over how design brings stories to life. Whether it’s the elegant, flowing curves of Elven artistry or the bold, geometric lines of Dwarven craftsmanship, jewelry in fantasy isn’t just beautiful - it’s storytelling you wear.

With Amazon’s The Rings of Power, we’ve been whisked back to Middle-earth, and I have to say, the jewelry has completely stolen the show for me. Seriously, have you seen those pieces? Let’s talk about them - and how they’ve inspired some of my work.

Elven Jewelry: Timeless Elegance and Nature’s Grace

Elves have this effortlessly elegant vibe, don’t they? Their jewelry in The Rings of Power is no exception. Drawing heavily from Art Nouveau, it’s all about soft, flowing lines, delicate leaf motifs, and a connection to nature that’s just… ethereal.

Costume designer Kate Hawley emphasized the importance of capturing the Elves' deep connection to the natural world, aiming for designs that reflect their timeless and graceful nature. As someone obsessed with intricate details, this resonates deeply with me. My Silver Leaf Vine Ring and Vesuvianite Leaves Ring are inspired by that love of nature and balance, which perfectly aligns with the Elves’ philosophy.

Dwarvish Jewelry: Bold Craftsmanship Rooted in Stone and Metal

In stark contrast to the Elves, the Dwarves’ jewelry is chunky, geometric, and practical… but still so cool. 

For The Rings of Power, Kate Hawley and her team leaned into Art Deco for inspiration, creating strong and grounded designs, much like the Dwarves themselves. Hawley described the research process as “like going down a Pinterest hole,” emphasizing the depth of material considered to bring authenticity to the world of Khazad-dûm. (Source)

The team’s focus on natural shapes and formations within the mountain resonates through the Dwarves' jewelry, with its intricate engravings and bold geometric patterns.

How could I not be inspired by that? My Onyx Pins have a similar vibe. The bold hexagonal designs remind me of Dwarven architecture - solid, dependable, and full of character. Perfect for anyone who loves a little geometric flair.

The Rings of Power: Ancient Inspiration with a Modern Twist

The titular Rings of Power are the ultimate showstoppers, aren’t they? Production designer Ramsey Avery shared in an interview with CBR  that authentic historical artifacts inspired their designs.

“We found this spectacular shield from a bog in Ireland... It had these interesting shapes that interlocked and had these three swirls so that if you pour the materials into here... each separates out into its own area. Then you get a casting of the pure metal that you need for that, then you can take that metal, and now start to forge it into other rings' shapes, which each ring then taking on its own characteristic.” (Source: CBR)

The resulting designs feel ancient yet universal, blending influences from Celtic and Nordic cultures. The Rings exude power, mystery, and allure—qualities that any wearer would want to channel.

What I love about these designs is how they feel ancient but still fresh. That blend of old-world craftsmanship and modern imagination gets me every time. My Onyx Square Ring channels a similar energy with its intricate floral band and bold, timeless shape.
